Outdoor Learning

Outdoor Learning

At Repton Manor we care for the environment and the world around us, teaching the children to care for and respect nature through outdoor learning. We are developing our own wildlife area and outdoor classroom on our school grounds but are lucky enough to have use of the community centre grounds also, with mature trees and open spaces.

Research has shown that spending prolonged periods of time immersed in natural surroundings helps children in all sorts of ways, from improved mental wellbeing to physical fitness and learning new skills.
Outdoor learning challenges children to learn using communication, team building and independence, whilst equipping them with important life skills, such as resilience, building self-esteem and learning to assess risk. Nature is the perfect backdrop for creativity, imagination and exploration.

Our children are able to explore nature, build dens, climb trees, sit around a camp fire, all the time learning without even realising that is what they are doing. We are outside all year round, in all weathers and its great!
